Crowdfunding Platform PubSlush Set to Close This Month

pubslushPubSlush is a global pre-publication platform that offers crowdfunding and pre-order options for authors and publishers. Founded in 2011 by mother and daughter entrepreneurs, Hellen and Amanda Barbara, PubSlush originally began as a crowdfunding publisher (think Unbound in the UK) and later developed into a platform created to connect writers with readers. Primarily it hosted a dedicated crowdfunding system much like Kickstarter, but dedicated to books.

Alas, PubSlush will close its online doors for good on August 23rd. The company began contacting its subscribed authors by email late last week.

We want to thank you for your constant support of Pubslush through the years and we wish you the best of luck in your business.

PubSlush has not disclosed the reason for closure and it currently lists just 23 active crowdfunding book projects. While there are other book crowdfunding platforms like Inkshares, it does question the long-term viability of crowdfunding platforms dedicated to one specific sector. Just like authors using crowdfunding to build readership and finance publication, the hosting platforms themselves must have a substantial network to begin with. One cannot solely rely on the other to feed success and viability.
