Troubador Publishing

This week Troubador Publishing Ltd (UK) has completed the acquisition of Brighton-based self-publishing service provider The Book Guild Ltd. TIPM understands that discussions between Troubador and The Book Guild had been on-going for several months and a final deal was agreed recently for an undisclosed sum. Troubador will continue to run The Book Guild Ltd as an independent company. Troubador already operates Matador, one of the most established self-publishing service imprints in the UK, as well as several traditionally published commercial lists.

book-guild-logoThe acquisition of The Book Guild is a strategic move by Troubador to consolidate its position at the high end of the author services market in the UK. The Book Guild looks to be an appropriate acquisition for Troubador because it provides authors with a similar partnership publishing model.

With the Matador imprint, our goal has been to offer the highest quality self-publishing production, distribution and marketing services that an author can source in the UK. The Book Guild also has this goal, and has successfully been offering a different form of author-financed publishing at the highest level for many years. Together, Matador and The Book Guild offer authors the highest quality publishing services in the UK, and under the same Troubador umbrella the synergy they offer can only be of benefit to authors.

— Jeremy Thompson, Managing Director of Troubador Publishing

The Book Guild, while remaining an independent company, will relocate its offices from Brighton to Troubador’s offices in Leicestershire where it will benefit from existing resources and dedicated distribution facilities. The Book Guild currently publishes approximately 100 new titles every year and there are already plans in place to develop the current services and offer a wider range of services to authors and greater support that a larger publishing group can bring.
