You’ve written what should be a bestselling book, so now what?
Writing can be a solitary, creative process and many authors are unfamiliar with connecting with larger audiences, especially the vast number of viewers available online. To further muddy the waters, writers may see the term content marketing and assume they need to promote their material with mere words, but content means a wide variety of materials, visuals, photos, videos, infographics, memes, music, slideshares and other presentations.
While content marketing strategies can easily be employed on a number of social media platforms, there are plenty of articles out there to address this arena. For the sake of argument, let’s look at some other content marketing methods for promoting and selling our Kindle books.
Think Outside the Box
While many turn to Facebook as a place to launch a business, sometimes this isn’t necessarily the place to go after a hard sale. There are a number of platforms that cater to the author as a place to promote their material online. Primarily these platforms are for free or discounted books, but for gaining exposure in a crowded marketplace, consider some of these options:
Get to Know Other Authors
Especially for those writers who are already on the Kindle publishing platform, don’t ignore the many author boards there since some writers are also avid readers. They don’t just post Kindle-related information, in their “hang out” section there’s also discussions on:
- Bartering, trading, buying and selling
- Apple devices like iPhone, iPad and iPod
- Non Kindle devices like Nook, Kobo and other e-readers
- Topics that aren’t even Kindle related
This is one way of both getting your book information out there, and at the same time you can also get publishing tips and tricks from other authors.
This is another great place for readers and authors alike to communicate, while writers can use it as a place to promote their material. You don’t have to subscribe to their blog to enjoy their daily deals, bargain books, new releases and highly reviewed choices. The site owner admits that it can be difficult to get a mention or review on their site, but also gives a form to fill out for books that an author is offering at a special promotional price or discount and some advice on promotion for newly published authors.
They promote their site as being a place to help book lovers find great authors and material in the digital age. They offer both paid and unpaid ways to get your Kindle book listed on their “Top 100 Free Kindle Books.” To meet their no cost option for submission, your title must have at least eighteen reviews and a rating of over 4.0 stars, but for a new author, an investment of $15 can get your unreviewed and unrated book a slot on their list.
A growing community where, “Kindle writers meet readers,” that offers a submission platform for published Kindle authors. On their submission page, they do require that the the book is either free or at a discounted rate and this could be a good place for new writers to gain some extra exposure.
Building a new organization, growing a brand image and promoting a product is just as important for authors as it is for small business owners. As an author, writing is your business and you are the brand.
