It’s with great sadness that TIPM reports Neil Marr has died. Neil began his writing career as a journalist, founded Bewrite Books as an editor and publisher, and was a much respected light in recent years in the self-publishing community. Many authors within the UK will be very familiar with Neil and his constant energy and enthusiasm to support and encourage writers.
In typical ebullient fashion, Neil described his prognosis as just a ‘slight hiccup’ along the way.
Neil passed away at 9pm yesterday evening after a brief but ultimately unwinnable battle against cancer at the Centre Hospitalier Princess Grace, France.
On a personal basis, Neil was a dear friend and work colleague, and always a great supporter of what I do at The Independent Publishing Magazine. I’ll miss your energy and humour, Neil. You were an absolute gentleman, and it was an honour and pleasure to consider you a friend and work colleague. We’d made so many plans to work together this year. You were made of the Celtic and hearty stuff – fuelled by fire, brimstone and words! Throw a rock – Neil will catch it firmly in his teeth, and spit it out as words gifted to the valleys and loughs. Go peacefully, my friend. I’ll always cherish the memory of our last phone call. RIP.
My thoughts are with Neil’s partner, Skovia, his son Sandy and daughter Kirsten.

Sometimes I just come back and reread your tribute to Neil just to touch base and remember what a unique and inspirational force he was, and still is, to everyone he came in contact with. I still run everything I write through the “Neil Filter”, firmly embedded in my brain. You were so fortunate to have known him personally.
