Merry Christmas from The Independent Publishing Magazine

TIPM subscribers and readers, we’ve reached the end of yet another publishing year. Every year seems to pass by so much quicker! In recent weeks the magazine celebrated its sixth birthday and in that time I’ve witnessed so many changes here, and within the book industry. The magazine is just shy of 350,000 unique visitors.

TIPM will be taking a much-needed break over the coming ten days. Thank you for all your visits, here, on our social media pages; and all the comments which contributed to so much lively debate during 2013. I have always taken great pride in the fact that the magazine remains free, while still providing much needed news, information and resources for new and experienced author-publishers.
What has been notable this year in the industry is the attention publishing and bookselling has received in the courts rather than the bookshelves. A little sad in some ways, but it does reflect an industry in transition and still faced with many challenges. I said last year, almost to the day, that 2013 would be a year of shrinkage and consolidation. It pretty much panned out that way.

For self-publishing, the options for authors is ever-expanding. While the rise of the savvy and entrepreneurial author continues, and mainstream media outlets are paying more and more attention, I still get frustrated by the way it is misrepresented and portrayed sometimes as another get-rich-quick scheme.

Here’s to 2014…

Read and be joyful, as readers, as creators… You alone, no matter what you are told, are THE FUTURE OF PUBLISHING.
May the road rise up to meet you in 2014. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from TIPM.
