Self-Publisher Experience Days 2010

There still remains a lot of mystification on the whole process of self-publishing and the printing of books for authors, and the latest program by one of the UK’s most notable self-publishing imprints provides a useful and educational introduction.
Matador, the self-publishing imprint of Troubador Publishing UK, has teamed up with printer MPG Biddles to offer authors considering self-publishing the opportunity to enrol in their new program called Self-Publisher Experience Days. MPG Biddles are a UK printer based in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, specializing in short print runs between 100 and 750 units. Through the two companies’ forthcoming AuthorsChoice partnership, the Self-Publisher Experience Days program will offer self-publishers, new small press starters, and first-time authors the chance to learn about the ins and outs of publishing a book.
Troubador Publishing’s MD, Jeremy Thompson, along with many independent publishers in the UK like Elastic Press and Salt Publishing use the digital and lithographic print services on offer from MPG Biddles. Thompson formed the AuthorChoice partnership with Biddles specifically to provide the opportunity for authors to engage and learn about the many aspects of the print and publishing process.

“These unique experience days will enable authors new to self-publishing to talk to people who publish and print books for a living. Matador and Biddles staff will be on hand to discuss all aspects of publishing a book, from design through print and marketing and there’ll be no hard sell either. We hope that, after having seen what Matador and Biddles can do, authors will want to work with one or other of us, but if not, that’s fine.”

The Self-Publisher Experience Days will kick off with its first one-day session on May 20th, 2010. Those who attend the May session and the future dates this year will learn how the design of a book has a direct impact on its printing, have a tour of a book manufacturing factory, learn about marketing and distribution to the retail trade, and meet other like-minded independent self-publishers.
The first Self-Publisher Experience Day this year will be held on May, 20th, 2010. To celebrate the inaugural session of the program, attendance is free for the first enrolled ten delegates. Full details will be finalised in the coming two weeks, but you can register your interest in attending by emailing matador@troubador.co.uk.
