It was widely predicted since the London Book Fair this summer, but finally Amazon has confirmed that a wireless version of the Kindle will be available to order for the international market from today with units shipping on October 19th. Amazon have agreed deals with a number of high profile UK publishers, including Atlantic Books, Bloomsbury, Canongate, Hachette, Faber, HarperCollins and Penguin, although Random House have yet to agree a deal to include their selected titles.
Prices for the internationally available Kindle will be quoted in dollars ($279) and will ship from Amazon.com for the time being, but orders will eventually switch to Amazon.co.uk. The fact the product ships from Amazon.com may result in higher shipping charges and also may be subject to import fees so potential customers should first check before ordering their beloved Kindles. Amazon will offer customers more than 200,000 English language titles. New releases and bestsellers will be available to purchase between $11.99 and $13.99, but will be subject to an international fee for any book downloaded from the Kindle store.
