I am the Author of 'City women and the ghost writer'. Your blog is valuable for an author. It is a great service indeed. I am surprised that you did not include my publisher.
Kind Regards.

Krishna,

There are many reasons why I decide not to review companies, some of those reasons can be quite innocent, others are based on fundamental principles which I believe go to the heart of standards adhered to in the self-publishing industry.

Please review the below two artices which are also linked on the left-hand column of the site as to the reasons why I do not carry out and publish reviews of them on POD, Self Publishing & Independent Publishing.

http://mickrooney.blogspot.com/2009/04/pod-self-publishing-reviews-part-1-your.html

http://mickrooney.blogspot.com/2009/04/pod-self-publishing-reviews-part-2.html

Again, the reasons they do not appear here could be entirely innocent and because a review does not appear on my website does not mean I have not researched them.

Regarding Olympia Publishing directly - they break one of the fundamental core rules; they present themselves are a commercial publisher and give little indication on their website that they charge fees. It is only when an author submits and hears back from them that a fee is discussed. It is the classic ploy of old style vanity presses called, 'bait and switch'.

It you have had a positive experience with Olympia Publishing - I'm glad to hear that, and do feel free to post to the site about your experiences with them or private email me (mickrooney777 at hotmail dot com) - but I have to look at the wider audience who visit this site and others websites like it for reliable resources where they are prepared to follow the self-publishing path and are often looking quite varied kinds of publishing.

As an example, just last week I spent two days looking at the services of one reasonable large well-run and financed author solution company with offices in both the UK and USA after they contacted me to have a look at their operation. I did not complete that review simply because I knew it was not a company I could include on the site and my opinions of their service would be potentially damaging to them and their business. However, I did inform them of my decision not to go ahead with the review and still sent them my findings - if at least to direct them in the areas I felt they were letting authors down.

Mick, I find your reviews informative and helpful. However...

This 2009 review of BookSurge.com is rediculous. BookSurge.com was a gross ripoff that had the power to bully due to Amazon.com's de facto monopoly as THE one place most people buy their online books from. Not available through Amazon.com, then your book does not exist.

In 2009 when this review was written, LightningSource.com was a far superior option over BookSurge.com. Yet this review implies BS.com offers a good deal. Without a *comparison* this review is terribly misleading, and potentially harmful, to its less-aware audience members.

However, now in July 2011, with BookSurge.com subsumed under Amazon's CreateSpace.com with is ripoff services costing hundreds of dollars no longer required, CS.com is much better than BookSurge.com was.

Yet LS.com still provides distribution to Amazon USA and Europe, and to other outlets like bookstores; without the 60% upfront grab that CreateSpace.com takes for European sales. Besides, CS.com does not distribute to physical book stores as LS.com does.
